Basics of Budgeting

This session is geared toward executive directors or program directors who want to learn how to manage program and organizational budgets. We recommend enrolling in the second course in this series, "Make the Most of Your Accounting System", upon completion. 

Need to start from the beginning of building a budget? This introductory workshop on budgeting will help you understand how to create a budget for your program or organization. Practical approaches for putting together budgets, managing within the budget process, and designing and fine-tuning an organization's budget will be covered. 


Through this workshop, participants will: 

  • Understand components of a budget and how to organize them in a meaningful way for the end users
  • Understand how program budgets fit within the agency budget and how to allocate costs across program areas
  • Understand the budget time line for the organization, including preparing, reviewing, and approval by the board
