Nonprofit 101: Basics of Nonprofit Sector

"Nonprofit 101: Basics of Nonprofit Sector" is intended for those new to the nonprofit field or anyone who might be considering a transition to this sector.

This introductory session will provide an overview of the nonprofit sector and the essential features that define it. Participants will learn about the origins of the sector, types of nonprofit organizations and their role in society and the economy today. The session will also highlight some of the current trends and unique challenges impacting nonprofit organizations.

Through this workshop, participants will:
  • Gain new knowledge about the history and scope of the nonprofit sector
  • Identify key research trends impacting nonprofit organizations today
  • Describe the distinctions between the nonprofit and for-profit sectors and examples of how the lines are becoming blurred
