Managing a Nonprofit: Roles and Accountabilities of the Chief Executive

One credit toward Nonprofit Leadership Certificate

"Managing a Nonprofit: Roles and Accountabilities of the Chief Executive" is designed for new CEOs at nonprofits of all sizes, experienced executives looking for a refresher course, or for others on track to become a nonprofit CEO.

Do you know that most executive directors have never been EDs before or that half of EDs have been managers in the government or for profit sector? This course provides a framework for understanding the nature and functions of a nonprofit organization and the leadership/management role of the executive officer.

Through this workshop, participants will:
  • Identify elements of their organization and management in the organization and their interrelationship
  • Assess which developmental phase the organization is in
  • Identify various accountabilities and talents required by the CEO and organization
  • Assess the organization's general performance and collective talent needs required for improved performance
  • Identify tools to support the board in carrying out its role
