Nonprofit P.I.: Donor Prospecting

One elective credit toward Revenue Development Certificate

This workshop is designed for anyone in the revenue development field, or for any nonprofit employee interested in conducting donor prospecting research for his/her organization.

Every nonprofit organization could benefit from its very own private investigator for revenue development, providing valuable information and strategic direction to increase fundraising success. With the right tools and knowledge, this role can be filled by multiple people within a nonprofit.

Types of prospecting covered in this class will include corporate, individual, foundation, religious and government potential donors. Participants will learn tips for organizing prospecting efforts and will explore the available research resources. This course will also offer methods for engaging a board of directors and other stakeholders outside of staff in building your prospect base.

Through this workshop, participants will:
  • Awareness of at least three sources for getting background information about donor prospects.
  • Understand practical ways to engage others in prospect research, including program staff, volunteers, and board members.
  • Identify key prospect characteristics for your organization to pursue.

CNM is an approved provider for CFRE International Continuing Education Program. Full participation in Nonprofit P.I.: Donor Prospecting is applicable for up to three (3.00) continuing education points in Category 1.B – Education of the CFRE International application for initial certification and/or recertification.
