Basics of Program Evaluation

This workshop is intended for program directors, staff, and board members who would like to develop a foundation for understanding and implementing evaluation in their organizations or programs.

 

Evaluation: love it or hate it, it is crucial to making data-driven decisions about program improvement and to understanding the impact of your program. This workshop will provide participants with an understanding about how evaluation can improve their programs and what they should consider in developing evaluation plans. It will also provide the foundational elements that are critical to being able to design, implement and use evaluation in real life settings. During the workshop, participants will have an opportunity to unpack their understanding of and experiences with evaluation and participate in interactive, hands-on activities to learn key evaluation techniques. 


Through this workshop, participants will:
  • Understand the difference between research and evaluation
  • Understand the steps in the life cycle of an evaluation project
  • Discuss evaluation in real-world contexts
  • Learn how program design impacts evaluation and data 
  • Identify basic data collection and analysis methods (and when to use them)
