Certificate: CNM Fundraising - Winter Cohort

What does it take to bring your organization’s fundraising efforts to the next level? How can you ensure that you have the resources necessary to ensure the provision of your programs and services for years to come?


The CNM Fundraising Certificate has been revamped to address current needs in our nonprofit sector. It will be presented in three parts, giving time for each participant to truly explore the elements of fundraising in depth. Through a cohort model, participants will build a connected community with a culture of learning and feedback. Lead by Michelle Conn, Director of Major Gifts and Foundations at International Justice Mission, participants will learn best practices in the field, and walk away with a fundraising plan ready for implementation.

Fundraising Certificate Winter Cohort

Fundraising Part 1: Cycle of Development

January 24, 2019 facilitated by Michelle Conn

Before the first session, each participant will complete a pre-course questionnaire to guide our conversations and ensure focused outcomes and plans specific to each organization. In Part 1, participants will get to know each other, receive an overview of the current fund-raising landscape including key fund-raising areas and an overview of the cycle of development. Participants will begin activities to get the data and results necessary to develop a meaningful fund development plan. Homework will be assigned.

Fundraising Part 2: Building the Framework

February 14, 2019 facilitated by Michelle Conn

In this session, participants will dive deeper into the cycle of development - the process through which we identify, cultivate, solicit and steward the gifts from major investors to our organizations. From the homework and activities in part 1, participants will begin to develop their own organizational fund development plans. Homework will be assigned.

Fundraising Part 3: Strategic Communication

March 7, 2019 facilitated by Michelle Conn

In this session, participants will learn and practice effective story-telling techniques to share about their organizations with current and potential supporters. Participants will craft and practice making their “asks" and receive feedback from fellow participants regarding its effectiveness and clarity. Participants will finalize their fund development plans including receiving feedback from the group.

How do I sign up for this certificate?

To sign up, register for the Certificate:Fundraising Workshop, which includes the three core classes (part 1, part 2, and part 3). This enrolls you in the certificate; however, the certificate is not completed until you sign up for three additional elective courses.


Does signing up here register me for all 6 certificate courses?

No. Signing up here automatically enrolls you for the 3 core classes and into the certificate program. However, you must select your own three electives from the CNM Workshop Calendar and enroll individually.


Can I sign up for the Certificate: CNM Fundraising (to take the three core courses), and NOT sign up for the other three elective courses?

At this point you will be enrolled in the Fundraising Certificate; however, it is your choice to finish the certificate and take the other electives. Participants are disenrolled from a certificate if it is not completed within one year of the first certificate class taken.


Can I take my elective courses before I finish my three core course?

Yes. You can take the electives at any time.However, we do recommend starting with the foundational core classes.


Can I just take one of the core classes? I only want to attend Fundraising Part 1.

No. All core classes must be taken together.You cannot just take one or two of the core classes.


I took one of the courses in the certificate last year. Does it count for the certificate this year?

No. To complete this CI certificate, all participants can only apply classes in 2019. Please look at our new offerings for the 2019 calendar.
