Special Events Made Simple

This workshop is designed for both new and seasoned nonprofit event planners.

Special Events are a fundamental part of a balanced development plan…but they can instill fear and loathing among the most seasoned of development professionals! This course will guide you through the process of creating a new, first-time event to its successful execution and follow-up.

From breakfasts to black-tie events, this session will provide you with the tools to research a new event and make it unique to your agency. You will understand why Special Events are needed and their unique role in your development plan, as well as learning various strategies to increase the ability of the event to raise money.

Attendees will learn how to successfully research, plan, and implement a new special event while learning critical elements such as budgets, timelines, and working with volunteers. Participants will practice conflict management skills with volunteers, donors, and staff. You will learn vital project management skills as you recognize pitfalls as well as hacks to putting on a successful special event. Understand how committees and volunteers can impact the event and the importance of event structure and job descriptions.

This course was created for people wanting to learn how to execute a new event but it is also great for anyone looking to manage or lead a special event or expand their knowledge of event-based project management.

  • Be knowledgeable about "add ons" like silent online and live auctions, patron's events, after-event parties, online registration, contracted services for event execution, etc.
  • Learn how to create an effective timeline for your event
