Legislative Wrap Up: Leveraging Laws to Increase Impact

This event is generously sponsored by Pinnacle Financial Partners.

Join us as we gather together experts from around Tennessee to understand the legislative changes to come out of the recent legislative session and how to best advocate for our nonprofits. In this three (3) session gathering, participants will explore what significant bills passed in Tennessee related to nonprofits. Participants will then hear from a bi-partisan panels of state Representatives and Senators on how new laws will alter the nonprofit landscape. Finally, through an interactive workshop, participants will learn what nonprofits can do to become strong advocates for their cause.

Session 1: Legislative Review

The morning session will begin with expert Stewart Clifton of Clifton Government Relations diving into a Legislative Review. Clifton will provide a clear and concise session overview of what happened in Tennessee related to nonprofits, how many bills were passed, and key items in the budget.

Session 2: Bi-Partisan Panel

Next, a bi-partisan panel of state Representatives and Senators will discuss key policy issues and the overall shift in politics that has occurred since the last election. There will be time for audience question and answer. Confirmed guests include:

  • Senator Brenda Gilmore (D)
  • Senator Jack Johnson (R)
  • Representative Vincent Dixie (D)
  • Representative Johnny Garrett (R)

Session 3: Becoming a Nonprofit Advocate

But what happens next? What can nonprofits do to advocate for their mission at this point in the legislative process?Join Meredith Sullivan Benton of The Healing Trust to determine what actions to take next to create the biggest impact.
