Position Description - Responsibilities and Requirements:
Oasis Center Emergency Shelter is hiring for an overnight residential counselor.  State licensure mandates that both a male and female be present on this shift.  We are currently hiring for the male position. This position is full time, the range is 30,000-32,000 and an additional shift differential of 3,000 annually.   The hours are: 

Sunday – Thursday alternating monthly schedule of 11pm – 7am & 12am – 8am


Essential Functions:

·        Provide awake coverage.  Perform bed checks once every hour.

·        Wash, dry, and put away linens in the laundry room. Stock empty bedrooms with fresh linens for the next resident.

·        Print copies for all necessary documents for the main office.

·        Reset the living space for the next day.

·        Close out and refresh resident files after they have exited the program.

·        Input HMIS data for each resident.

·        Facilitate residents getting ready in the morning for the Learning Center.

·        Provide supervision for shelter residents.  Coordinate and supervise activities when appropriate or assigned.

·        Provide intake and assessment services to youth and families referred to the shelter program.

·        Provide group services when appropriate or assigned.

·        Facilitate the referral process for potential clients.

·        Attend quarterly staffings/meetings and regular supervision.

·        Document client interaction in a consistent and ethical manner.

·        Provide crisis counseling services through the agency coverage system.

·        Provide liaison and referral services with appropriate mental health centers, courts, physicians, school systems, Department of Children’s Services and others as needed.

·        Participate with supervisor and appropriate specialists or consultants on specific case related problems.


Non-Essential Functions:

·        Transport clients as needed.


Essential Functions:

·        Maintain consistent and timely records, including relevant reports to meet funding and licensing requirements.

·        Assist in the preparation for monitoring visits by funding and licensing sources.

·        Collect data on residents as assigned.

·        Prepare files on residents as assigned.

·        Participate in the hiring process and orientation of new staff when appropriate.

·        Participate in staff and program development.



Minimal Requirements / Performance Standards:

·        Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form.

·        Ability to monitor client interaction visually and auditorally.

·        Ability to maneuver stairways. 

·        Knowledge and ability to apply positive youth development. 

·        Knowledge and ability to apply trauma informed care approach.  

·        Knowledge and ability to apply behavior management techniques.

·        Knowledge and ability to apply basic counseling principals.

·        Knowledge and ability to apply group work theory.

·        Knowledge and ability to access community resources.

·        Knowledge and ability to apply crisis intervention theory.

·        One year relevant experience in related field with High School diploma / no experience required with a Bachelor’s degree.
