Position Description - Responsibilities and Requirements:


This coordinator will work on behalf of the Tennessee Alliance for the Severe Mental Illness Exclusion(TASMIE), a coalition of mental health advocates, criminal justice reform organizations, and others, to educate Tennesseans about the need to exclude those with severe mental illness from the death penalty. The primary educational vehicles systematic outreach, targeted to mental health advocates and their constituents, faith communities, law enforcement, veterans, and surviving family members of murder victims, the goal of which is to educate these constituencies on the importance of excluding those with the most severe mental illnesses from the death penalty. Essential duties and responsibilities of the coordinator will be to:

 

·      Develop an outreach plan, particularly focused on mental health advocates, faith communities, law enforcement, and veterans

·      Provide presentations to and maintain on-going relationships with the above groups

·      Recruit key messengers (law enforcement, mental health experts, veterans) to educate citizens, the media, and lawmakers about the benefits of excluding those with severe mental illness from the death penalty

·      Coordinate regular TASMIE coalition meetings, events, communications, and messaging

·      Update and disseminate written materials to TASMIE partners, citizens, and lawmakers

·      Maintain the coalition website, as well as social networking sites, and regular email communications with supporters

 

Qualifications /Requirements

 

·       BA/BS preferred

·       Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills

·       Ability to work evenings and weekends

·       Experience working with a variety of constituencies, including law enforcement, mental health advocates, and surviving family members of murder victims

·       Strong organizational skills and ability to handle several tasks in parallel

·       A valid driver’s license and being an insurable driver as some in-state travel is required

·       PC literacy including electronic communications, desktop publishing programs; experience in producing and presenting power point presentations; web-based productions skills a plus

 

 

Salary and Benefits                                                                                      Start Date

 $26,000 (20 hours/week)                                                                         February1, 2018 (negotiable)
