Position Description - Responsibilities and Requirements:
 The Human Resources Manager incumbent functions as a Business Partner and is responsible for all aspects of human resources for the Nashville Area Command including recruitment, employment, benefits, leave administration, and performance management. Responsible for the daily administration of programs and human resources activities in order to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws including established policies and procedures. Compiles, submits and maintains appropriate records for Divisional and Territorial Headquarters including personnel records, and documents requiring Divisional Finance Board approval.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Demonstrated Knowledge of: Labor laws and ability to interpret/enforce the same. Principles and practices of human resources. General office principles, practices and procedures. Principles and practices of the supervision and management of personnel. General practices and procedures of human resource management, specifically Recruitment, Employment, Benefits and Grievance processes. Ability to interview, screen and select qualified applicants to fill open positions. Ability to organize, maintain and secure personnel records in an effective manner. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, and to motivate a spirit of unity, loyalty and helpfulness within and among office staff. Ability to ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures. Ability to research and stay abreast of legislation governing employment, recruitment administration. Ability to ensure that daily employee practices and functions are in compliance with established policies, and procedures, including legal regulations. Ability to learn and become proficient in specific computer software utilized by the department including Microsoft Office, HRIS system, evaluation system, payroll system, and Lotus notes. Knowledge of effective and efficient record keeping practices and procedures.Knowledge of the English language  including proper grammar and punctuation. Knowledge of basic mathematics, including calculating percentages. Ability to manage workload and perform in an efficient and effective manner.  Ability to answer the telephone in a courteous and tactful manner


Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college university in Human Resources or related field preferred, or two years of college or technical school degree in a related field, and four or more years of experience working in human resources preferably as a Generalist, Coordinator, or Business Partner,


Licenses and Certifications

PHR certification preferred and Valid Driver’s license


Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Duties are usually performed seated.  Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.  Some tasks may require standing for short periods of time. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time. Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little, or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like. Work may require driving a vehicle daily with exposure to the outdoors where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.


Salary Range: $42,000-$50,000
